Cowboys Reveal Grade on Trey Lance; QB's 'Here All Day!' - Coach McCarthy

New Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance is now getting acclimated to his new surroundings, with coach Mike McCarthy detailing that the team is working feverishly to get him up to speed with the offense.

Trey Lance is now a Dallas Cowboy and begins the next chapter in his NFL career in the hopes of reviving it.

With Lance now in the building after being traded to the Cowboys, getting the former San Francisco 49er up to speed on the "Texas Coast Offense" is Job 1 - for Lance, anyway ... as the coaching staff has even bigger priorities, as it is dealing with Cutdown Day and the coming opener at the Giants.

But for the just-acquired player? This means meetings, getting to know his new teammates, and everything in between.

"Trey arrived [Sunday], he went through the physical process and everything," coach Mike McCarthy said. "He's gotten acclimated and frankly he's been here all day. He's been working and coaches have been going in and out trying to get time with him. There's obviously a lot going on today and tomorrow as far as personnel meetings and game-planning for the Giants, so it's pretty hectic up here, but he's been here all day."

Exactly where Lance fits into the Cowboys' plans this season seems reasonably straightforward. He will be the No. 3 quarterback behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush.

Starting from scratch and getting to know the scheme, players, and coaches is, for Lance, the first step in making this second chance work.

While it is all surely a lot to take in right now, Lance - the No. 3 player taken in the 2021 NFL Draft who busted with the Niners but who sources tell CowboysSI.com did have a second-round grade that year from Dallas - will be looking to adjust and adapt as soon as possible, despite likely knowing he won't see the field this season, barring a horror sequence of injuries at the quarterback position.

But for McCarthy, getting Lance involved in everything to do with the team is one way to fast-track his development.

"You do the best we can," McCarthy said. "We have young player meetings for all of our young players three times a week. We do things in the post-practice segments to work with our young players. He'll [Lance] be a big part of that, and any other time that's available, we'll make the best of it."

Not many picked Dallas as a landing spot for Lance, but now that he's here, the next step in his development can take place.

He knows where he stands in the pecking order, and he can go about his business away from the limelight (sort of) and concentrate on getting ready for his next opportunity, whenever that might be.
