Jerry's Cowboys 'Will S*** In Their Helmets, Like Always!' - NFL Analyst

NFL Mark Schlereth uses some crude language as he slams the Dallas Cowboys' recent decision to trade for quarterback Trey Lance

When quarterback Trey Lance requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers last week, few imagined he'd land with the Dallas Cowboys.

After all, the Cowboys had a stable quarterback room with Dak Prescott, the longest-tenured starter in the league, and a capable backup in Cooper Rush. For many, the proposition of Lance, who had just lost the 49ers' backup job to Sam Darnold, going to Dallas seemed strange. However, the Cowboys saw the talent that made Lance a No. 3 overall pick, and decided it was worth taking a flier on him.

The Lance trade has since drawn mixed reactions from the media, as most Cowboys moves tend to do. One analyst firmly in the negative camp is Fox's Mark Schlereth, who won three Super Bowls during his 11-year NFL career. In a recent episode of his podcast, "Stinkin' Truth," Schlereth slammed the Lance trade and particularly took issue with how owner Jerry Jones handles the situation.

“This is why the Cowboys will never win s***, because Jerry Jones can’t help himself,” Schlereth said. “You think about Jerry Jones, you’re gonna go out there and you’re gonna make a trade for a guy without talking to anybody else in your organization, Stephen Jones, your head coach Mike McCarthy, your quarterback."

That accusation is not entirely true; Jones did not engineer this trade by himself. It is true that McCarthy was not directly involved. (We're also not sure why Dak Prescott needed to be involved in trade discussions with the 49ers.) Nevertheless, Schlereth went on to say that the way Jones handled the situations is actually a symptom of a larger problem, which is a big reason for the Cowboys' lack of playoff success.

"You cannot win in the National Football League that way," Schlereth said.

The Cowboys have been one of the best regular-season teams in the league recently, with back-to-back 12-win seasons. However, that regular-season success has not translated to the postseason, as Dallas has not made the NFC Championship Game since 1995.

According to Schlereth, that streak isn't going to end this season.

“Oh, they may win a bunch of regular-season games because they’re talented,” Schlereth said. “They’ll get in the playoffs, and they’ll s*** in their helmets like they do every year.”

Needless to say, the Cowboys will be out to prove Schlereth, and all their other doubters, wrong this season.
