Cowboys Tryout for 1st-Round WR Laquon Treadwell: Source on Signing Plan
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys held their annual “Dallas Day” workout to close the week, and in addition to NFL Draft prospects with local ties allowed to participate, so are select vets trying to recapture a shot in the league.
And former first-round draft pick Laquon Treadwell was among those, as first reported by 105.3 The Fan’s Bobby Belt.
Treadwell, 27, was a spectacular college wide receiver at Ole Miss who was selected 23rd overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played for four seasons in Minnesota and then spent a single year in Atlanta, where he scored two TDs in 2020. In 2021, he did offer a glimpse of what he could do with a career-high 434 receiving yards.
The 6-2 Treadwell was a practice-squadder and a project last season in Seattle, though he did end up appearing in six games for the Seahawks.
It is being reported that the Treadwell tryout is part of some intense search for receiver help; in fact, it's really about nothing more than staying in contact with a once-upon-a-time prospect. Dallas did something akin to this last year with Antonio Callaway, a vet who ended up on the practice squad and is re-signed for this year as well.
The Cowboys are including wide receiver on the list of possibilities when its time to use a premium pick in the NFL Draft, with TCU star Quentin Johnson also on the visits list.
A team source tells CowboysSI.com there is no immediate plan to add Treadwell to a Dallas receiving room led by CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks (just acquired via trade) and Michael Gallup.
