'I Don't Trust Mike McCarthy!' Dallas Cowboys To Get 'Out-Coached' at 49ers, Predicts Colin Cowherd
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Mike McCarthy is among the NFL's most tenured and accomplished coaches, with numbers and records and a Super Bowl title all stuffed onto his resume. And yet ...
Colin Cowherd is joining the (maybe shrinking?) chorus of non-believers in McCarthy as he leads his Dallas Cowboys into for this Sunday's showdown game against the San Francisco 49ers.
"Mike McCarthy is not a bad coach, but I don't love him in matchups like this. I think he's going to get out-coached," said Cowherd, who hosts The Herd on FS1, obviously believing the Cowboys boss is no match for the Niners' Kyle Shanahan.
The Shanahan factor is a piece of evidence that in a sense supports Cowherd's assertion. The Cowboys have lost two straight playoff games to the 49ers, and so in that sense, Dallas has consistently been "out-coached'' - but also "out-muscled'' and "out-hustled'' and "out-played'' by San Francisco.
In other words, McCarthy's failure against the Niners is a team-wide failure. It also means that Micah Parsons and Zack Martin and CeeDee Lamb and - oh yeah, Dak Prescott - have been "out-everything'ed'' in these matchups.
But beyond the 0-2 record, what is Cowherd's foundation for "not loving'' McCarthy here?
"I think,'' Cowherd said, "the hole in Mike McCarthy's game is situational football. Now, you can get away with it when you have Aaron Rodgers in your prime, you can probably get away with more when you had (Ezekiel Elliott), the best offensive line in football, and Dak in his prime. But, I don't think this is one of those situations.''
We're not sure how Colin comes to his "situational football'' conclusion. Nor do we think that Prescott, who just turned 30, is "past his prime.'' What we do believe is that millions of Cowboys observers have developed pre-conceived and maybe ill-conceived notions about McCarthy's Cowboys ... and that Dallas believes it is poised to undo those notions with a win.
