FRISCO - A 2023 NFL Draft prospect was involved in a fatal car crash in Alabama over the weekend and undergoing multiple surgeries, his agent said.
Louisiana-Lafayette wide receiver Michael Jefferson, considered to be a mid-round prospect, was involved in what Alabama law enforcement officials say was a head-on collision with another vehicle.A 55-year-old man who was not wearing a seat belt was pronounced dead at the crash site, per TMZ.
Jefferson's agent told ESPN that the player, a 6-4 199-pound receiver who in his senior season hauled in 51 receptions for 810 yards with seven TDs - sustained a series of serious injuries from the car crash in Mobile. The nature of those injuries has not been disclosed.
At the NFL Draft Scouting Combine, Jefferson, a native of Mobile, Alabama, posted a 4.56-second time in the 40-yard dash with a 1.52-second 10-yard split time. He also showed off a 37-inch vertical jump and went for 11-foot-1-inches in the broad jump.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the crash. Our thoughts at this time are with all involved in the accident.
