'Exceptional Talent!' Giants Changes for Cowboys' Dak Prescott & CeeDee Lamb?
FRISCO - The New York Giants have juggled the guys in their secondary for the 2023 NFL season ... maybe in part because the guys in their secondary need to solve the Dallas Cowboys offense.
“They have a very good player that plays both inside and outside with CeeDee (Lamb), but they have some other skill players that are going to be challenging — really their entire package,'' said Giants coach Brian Daboll as the teams gear up for Week 1 and "Sunday Night Football.'' "All their skill guys from their backs, to their receivers, to their tight ends. All of our guys are going to have to be ready to go with the assignments that we ask them to do.”
Those "guys'' now include Adoree Jackson working in the slot, with Deonte Banks and Tre Hawkins outside. ... and a theory out of New York that suggests that Jackson working inside might mean a lot of head-to-head work against Lamb.
“Just exceptional talent,'' Jackson said of Dallas' tandem of QB Dak Prescott and Lamb. "And I think when you have a quarterback and receiver that are on the same page, you can look at numerous duos and they are their favorite target and give them the ball, a lot of things can happen.''
That's the plan for the Cowboys, of course. But the Giants joined them in the NFC Playoffs a season ago, and seem built to do it again. Dallas, however, stands in their way, with Prescott maybe lined up to be an NFL MVP candidate and when Dak himself stating that Lamb can be the best receiver in the league.
Dallas' new "Texas Coast Offense'' (a version of coach Mike McCarthy's West Coast offense philosophy from Green Bay) is designed to exploit those strengths. ... and the Cowboys' overall team speed.
Said Dak: “Yeah, a lot of speed. You can name a lot of guys ... (who have) speed but are playmakers. Speed is one thing, but to be a playmaker is another.”
That represents a Giants challenge ... and one they are conceding is "exceptional.''
