Ezekiel Elliott CUT by Cowboys Official; Zeke Free To Sign with New Team

The Cowboys have made a big decision on Ezekiel Elliott, who was set to cost $16.7 million. And it’s an emotional goodbye.

FRISCO - Zeke is out.

The Dallas Cowboys have made one big decisions in franchise history with Ezekiel Elliott, set to cost $16.7 million against the cap, being told on Wednesday that he’s being released.

Tony Pollard is locked in now with $10 million for 2023. Zeke never was locked in, with Dallas saving $5 million if cut now and $11 million is designated as a post-June 1 release. (The Cowboys will use the latter tool, we’re told.)

We are told the Cowboys were always prepared to eat dead money on Zeke and bid him a full goodbye, but that could have depended on his willingness to accept a massive pay cut to remain at The Star. … but that in a meeting with owner Jerry Jones - an audience deserved by Elliott given his importance to the franchise - Elliott declined that arrangement.

It is obvious that he was unwilling to do that because the fading two-time rushing champ believes he can get a better deal (and a bigger role) elsewhere.

And so in a monumental move, the seven-year Ezekiel Era is over.
