Ezekiel Elliott Next Team: Offers Will Be 'Humbling' for Cowboys Ex - Report
FRISCO - Ezekiel Elliott's trophy case at his Frisco home does not include a replica Super Bowl trophy, an unfortunate fact that close pal Dak Prescott says "will eat at me forever.''
But in every other way, that trophy case is full. In the NFL alone, he's got his seven seasons, his three Pro Bowls, his two NFL All-Pro nods and his two rushing titles.
What might he get next following his release from the Dallas Cowboys?
Maybe "humility.''
According to reports, it appears that Elliott might find it hard to locate a new home for the 2023 season - or at least one that rewards him in ways in which he's accustomed.
Here, in a recent article from Cowboys insider Jori Epstein, multiple sources indicated that Elliott's prospects could end up being "humbling.''
“I think teams are mostly paying for the name,” One NFL executive told Epstein. “I think the open market will be humbling for him.”
In Dallas, Elliott became an immediate superstar and matured into a leader. He also became the highest-paid running back in NFL history, and his release from the Cowboys is due in part to his cap-casualty status.
Has he faded, as he approaches age 28, to the point where he no longer has value? An NFL scout won't go that far.
“The (running back) market is pretty unforgiving, particularly this free agency,” the scout told Epstein. "He's still young 'enough' with a history of production to land an opportunity/role somewhere. And I don't think anyone can deny his toughness.”
Indeed, which is why the Bucs, Bills and Chargers are among those mentioned as potential bidders for his services. But how high will the bids be? And how important will his role be? "Humbling,'' maybe, is what they will be.
