Ezekiel Elliott Talks Contract with Patriots; Jets Want to Sign Cowboys Ex?

The Patriots and Ezekiel Elliott have "discussed contract parameters, and there's mutual interest,'' while the Jets might also want in on the former Cowboys star.

It seems clear that the first shoe to drop in the Running Backs Sweepstakes has to do with Dalvin Cook. He's visiting the New York Jets this weekend with the New England Patriots also interested.

At the same time, Ezekiel Elliott made a visit to Foxboro on Saturday, with CowboysSI.com breaking the story that while he left team headquarters without a contract, he went to dinner with Patriots QB Mac Jones as part of the "recruiting'' trip.

Now comes word that the Patriots and Elliott "discussed contract parameters, and there's mutual interest, with The Athletic noting that the Jets "have also shown interest in Elliott.''

A source tells CowboysSI.com that it's "too early'' to know if Elliott, the former two-time NFL rushing champion released by the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, might end up with multiple offers to weigh as NFL training camps march on. Indeed, it seems like Cook is the one who will be fielding the multiple options (trying to find one to match what we're told is a desire to get paid $10 million APY) with Zeke as the runner-up prize going to the team that doesn't get Dalvin.

Cook has made noise about signing with a host of different teams. He's even tried to make a connection with Dallas, talking of "partnering up'' with Cowboys standout Tony Pollard. That, however, is not at all reflective of the Cowboys' thinking.

The Patriots have young Rhamondre Stevenson at running back. Cook would figure to start over him; Elliott would figure to split time there.

In New York, Elliott might also be a supplemental piece while Cook has tried to sell his signing with the Aaron Rodgers-led Jets as a final piece to building a "superteam.''
