'For All the Marbles!' Jerry Jones Triggers Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers Hype; Odds Set for Week 5

FRISCO - It is too early to know. But if you're the gambling sort? We suppose it is never too early to bet.

At the risk of getting way ahead of ourselves, the San Francisco 49ers - a bitter rival of the Cowboys who have eliminated Dallas in each of the last two postseasons - are obviously a circle-the-calendar foe. And in Week 5, the Cowboys will have a chance to get some revenge. ...

“Here it is!'' Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after Week 4's 38-3 win over the Patriots. "A win against the Niners would feel like you’re playing for all the marbles in the NFL.”

Well, not quite. But we understand what Jones is saying.

Coming into this weekend, sportsbooks were already deciding that the 49ers deserve to be favored in that game by 3.5 points. And that hasn't changed, even with the Niners having blown out Arizona while the Cowboys were crushing the Pats.

Due to the fact that the Niners are at home at Levi's Stadium in Week 5, that would be an indication that the oddsmakers view the two old rivals as being fairly evenly matched.

Of course, some of that early Week 5 stuff was dependent in large part on the outcomes of the Week 4 games. But Dallas is now 3-1. And the Niners are 4-0. So, "here it is!''

The 49ers have not lost a regular-season game since then-unheralded rookie since then-unheralded rookie QB Brock Purdy made his debut a year ago. And San Francisco has had the Cowboys' number all to often in recent matchups. To the Niners, they likely think they are simply superior to Dallas. And now come some "marbles'' that go to the winner.
