Injury Report: For Cowboys, WR Michael Gallup has the 'will'; for Packers, WR Davante Adams is a 'won't'
FRISCO - We exist in a Cowboys-centric world in which the availability of rehabbed receiver Michael Gallup seems paramount. But really, it’s the receiver Dallas won't have to worry about on Sunday that might be the top game-changer.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams has been ruled out of the game. Adams is dealing with a turf toe injury he sustained in the team's loss last Thursday to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Adams isn’t just the No. 1 guy for quarterback Aaron Rodgers; he ranks with the best in the NFL Adams has yet to score a touchdown this season but he has three career TD catches against Dallas.
Gallup - with the help of his want-to - well return to the field for Dallas just two weeks after arthroscopic knee surgery.
“Gotta give credit to (trainer) Britt Brown and Michael Gallup,'' receivers coach Sanjay Lal told me. "That should be mentioned. Those two together willed MG back (to play this Sunday after knee surgery). He's gifted genetically, maybe. But his desire was high.''
Green Bay will also be without running back Jamaal Williams and cornerback Kevin King is doubtful. Meanwhile, in addition to Gallup, the Cowboys are getting some people healthier as the week winds down. the only player officially out for the Cowboys is offensive tackle Tyron Smith (ankle). But we have indications that defensive tackle Antwaun Woods (knee) might need one more week of rest, too.
Nevertheless, the return of Gallup, as well as the plan for activity from defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford, who is going to play despite pain in both hips, is a boost for 3-1 Dallas against a Packers team with the same record.
"It is what it is,'' said Crawford, who is pushing himself back in part because he believes this can be a "special'' season for Dallas. "I gotta deal with what I've got. It's going to be painful all season. But it is what it is.''
But at least he and the Cowboys don't have to deal with Davante Adams, who represents another sort of pain.
