Will Dallas Cowboys 'Run Through A Brick Wall' for QB Dak Prescott at Chargers?
FRISCO - Right about now, Dak Prescott could use a friend. And ideally, he's got around 52 or so of them sitting right next to him in the Dallas Cowboys locker room.
"It's my job to follow him and run through a brick wall if he tells me to," said tight end Jake Ferguson, offering a representative view from a teammate's point of view of the beleaguered Prescott.
And so, following the 42-10 loss at San Francisco in which Dak threw three interceptions, Ferguson said he texted his quarterback and team leader the following message ...
"I'm with you 'til the wheels fall off."
The Cowboys quarterback is of course not singularly responsible for the blowout loss to the 49ers in front of a national audience. But by virtue of his position, his personality and his pay?
Hey, we always say “This is a Quarterback League.” So when things go awry, it raises questions about the leader’s ability to … well, lead his team to success.
The cynical wag might respond to Ferguson’s “wheels fall off” remark by suggesting that that is exactly what is happening to the Cowboys.
But the truth it, the nuts and bolts can be tightened. The tires can be inflated. The revelation that Dallas isn’t on the Niners’ level is an issue for another day, if ever.
Right now? The Cowboys are prepping to follow Prescott again this week as they look to gas up on Monday night in L.A. against the Chargers.
'Nothing Personal!' Kellen Moore vs. Mike McCarthy? Dallas Cowboys Coach Reacts
The Cowboys are now 3-2. In the NFC, that pace maybe not be enough to keep up with the elite, as the 49ers and Eagles remain undefeated.
But the more immediate “brick wall” can be run through by Dallas … though the Cowboys will need to be true to their pledge to overcome adversity and to show “resilience,” a long-running locker room mantra under coach Mike McCarthy.
In the end, the private displays of support for Dak Prescott carry weight. But in public? Ferguson and the team needs to show Prescott their support with their play … and Prescott needs to do the same.
