'Jerry Jones: The Movie!' Cowboys Film Worth $50M to Netflix
FRISCO - "The Jerry Jones Story'' simply cannot be told in a "30 for 30'' or in "A Football Life.'' The life has been too eventful and it would take a whole lotta "30's'' to cover it all.
So, as it stands? It's going to take $50 million to cover it all, as that is the price that Netflix is reportedly ponying up as part of its partnership with the NFL to distribute a 10-part documentary on the colorful owner of the Dallas Cowboys.
According to Puck.news, the streaming television network plans to pay "just under $50 million" for the rights to air the docu-series centered around the 80-year-old owner ... and Netflix is being characterized as "the winner of a bidding war'' between other outlets, including Amazon and ESPN - both of whom of course have their own high-dollar partnerships with the league.
The docu-series will apparently come in 10 episodes and will feature interviews with Cowboys luminaries Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith and more. The Jones project reportedly also includes never-before-seen footage and, depending on who has control of the final edit - the series will be produced by NFL Films in partnership with Hollywood-based Skydance Sports - could end up drawing comparisons to the wildly successful The Last Dance, —and the Michael Jordan production.
There is of course the “America’s Team'' footprint and lure here. But for those who know Jerry Jones, there is something else: He truly is a sporting version of a "rock star'' ... and there are few characters more worthy of this sort of examination.
