Jimmy Johnson Jabs Jerry Jones' Cowboys vs. Eagles Opinion: 'No Idea!'

Jerry Jones has an opinion about the Eagles. People don't understand it. Enter Hall of Fame and former Super Bowl-winning coach of the Cowboys Jimmy Johnson.

FRISCO - Are people misunderstanding Jerry Jones ... on purpose?

Granted, the Cowboys owner's word-salad speaking style can make Jerry's takes difficult to grasp. But when he recently spoke of how the Eagles constructed used a "go-for-it'' approach in building what is a Super Bowl-caliber roster, he wasn't being insulting.

He was, as far as we're concerned - while reminding the football world of the times when he's also "gone for it'' - being just a little bit envious.

“Anybody who thinks I won’t take a chance has misread the tea leaves,” Jones said recently. “But I do think longer-term, and I’m real hesitant to bet it all for a year. ... In essence, we’re seeing a couple of teams that have had some real success putting it all out there and paying for it later in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.”

The Rams won the Super Bowl last year and they are "paying for it'' with a lack of draft picks moving forward. Philadelphia has made its aggressive push, too, though the cupboard is not bare for the future.

Enter Hall of Fame and former Super Bowl-winning coach of the Cowboys, Jimmy Johnson.

Jimmy is volunteering that he got a phone call from Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie asking what Jones meant by his "paying for it'' remark.

“I said, ‘I have no idea’,” Johnson told The Inquirer when asked what he told Lurie about Jones’ comments.

Too bad. Because we do have an idea.

Jones is either ...

1- Making the mistake of lumping all the "go-for-it'' successes together without a detailed breakdown of Philly's future picks (the Eagles in fact have two first-rounders this year). That's a mistake, but hardly a crime.

Or ...

2- Aware that the Eagles' impressive collection of talent will soon require paydays that will make it difficult to keep the band together.

Care to go with Choice No. 1? Fine. That's yet another unsurprising piece of proof that ''Jerry the GM'' isn't plugged in the way most of his contemporaries are; that is to say, most GM's probably know how many first-round picks their arch-rivals have in an upcoming draft.

But also unsurprising, sadly: That Jimmy would try to re-ignite the feud with his "frienemy'' Jerry by announcing this take.
