'Don't Jinx It!' Micah Parsons Jokes About Brandon Aubrey's Success for Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are fortunate enough to have stiff competition for the best player on the team.
Quarterback Dak Prescott is putting together an All-Pro season worthy of MVP consideration. Edge rusher Micah Parsons is on track to come second in Defensive Player of the Year voting for the third consecutive season. Receiver CeeDee Lamb is having a career year and DaRon Bland has an NFL single-season record to his name.
None have executed at a higher rate than kicker Brandon Aubrey.
Aubrey has hit all 35 of his field goal attempts this season. Just three of his extra points have gone awry. With one game left to play in the regular season, Aubrey’s hot start has gone from a feel-good story about a former professional soccer player to a key to Dallas’ playoff success.
The aforementioned Parsons doesn’t want to get in the way of Aubrey’s incredible run.
“For a guy who doesn’t miss, I have the utmost confidence in him,” Parsons said. “But I don’t want to jinx him at the same time. Just kind of let him chill out and let him be in his groove.”
Kickers, and their routines, are paramount. Aubrey hasn’t even kicked a wet ball during practice, as coaches fear the wear and tear of a water-logged ball can knock him off his mark.
With the margins so small, and special teams being a game of such excruciating precision, it’s hard to blame them for their caution. Parsons, too, is cautious when it comes to his star kicker.
Cowboys Land 7 On Pro Bowl Roster
Parsons has been seated for many, if not all, of Aubrey’s attempts. Fans can expect that to stay the same—even if that kick is coming in the Super Bowl.
“Nope, [I’ll be] praying, bruh. You can never jinx it,” Parsons said. “I might stand up and the weight of the Earth might tip. I just need to let him be.”
Unlucky 13? Micah Parsons Promises Sack by 'Any Means Necessary!'
Whatever Aubrey (or perhaps, Parsons) is doing is working. With a Week 18 game against the hosting Washington Commanders the only thing standing between Dallas and the NFC’s second seed, Aubrey will once again be asked to deliver.
Simply put, the Cowboys haven’t been this confident in their kicker since Dan Bailey’s peak. It’s a luxury come playoff time – one Dallas and its fans won’t dare to jinx.
