Jonathan Taylor Trade to Cowboys Would Be ‘Difference-Maker!’ - Louis Riddick

“Jonathan Taylor is a difference-maker,'' says ESPN’s Louis Riddick of a Cowboys trade idea. “If you put him in Dallas …”

FRISCO - While the Miami Dolphins are clearly in on trying to trade for the Indianapolis Colts' disgruntled star Jonathan Taylor - an offer has reportedly been made but rejected as talks continue - a prominent NFL scouting mind seems to be urging the Dallas Cowboys to get involved.

“Jonathan Taylor is a difference-maker,'' said ESPN’s Louis Riddick, the former scout and Eagles personnel executive. “If you put him in Dallas, Buffalo, Miami, he is going to be someone at the end of the year that you’re going to say, ‘That was the difference.’ He’s that kind of player. He’s (the Colts’) best player and best person.”

Dallas could always use another fine "player and person.'' But sources tell CowboysSI.com that the Cowboys are not among the rumored "serious bidders'' here, and we have outlined here the 10 reasons why Dallas, which presently employs a $10 million back in Tony Pollard - is taking that position.

Taylor, 24, a 2021 All Pro running back, wants a new contract from the Colts. They have not budged, instead allowing him to seek his own deal elsewhere.

Of course. Indy - which set a soft deadline of Tuesday for a transaction - can simply veto any proposal, as it has apparently done now at least once … even as reports have the Colts in ongoing negotiations with Miami and maybe others.

But no, the Cowboys say they are ample those “others.”

Is Riddick right? Are the Cowboys wrong? As of now, Indianapolis’ request is for a first-round pick or a massive haul of premium picks. And in addition to having to pay that price, a bidding team would be working with Taylor to satisfy his contact demands, which would likely include him doubling his present salary of $5 million.

Miami has been a rumored destination for Dalvin Cook (who signed with the Jets) and for Raiders holdout Josh Jacobs and now for Taylor, who has roots in South Florida.

The Dolphins obviously see their roster as being in need of a running back; the Cowboys do not see themselves that way.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said, “I’ll be surprised if (Taylor) plays for (Indy). It is possible; I just don’t know it will happen. This is a relationship that is not good, not good. It’s hard for me to imagine he just comes back and everything is fine.”

That helps open a window opportunity to a bidder in need. But the Cowboys seem to believe they are fine with their window, with their opportunities and with their needs - or, rather, their non-needs.
