Kareem Vs. Zeke: Cowboys Urged to Sign by Ex GM

In this story:
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have already powered though their decision at running back, with Tony Pollard taking over as the full-time “every-down back” … and with Ezekiel Elliott no longer with the club.
As we have stated before, the Cowboys are trying to be respectful of Zeke’s great career here … but are "disinterested'' in forging a contractual reunion.
Nor, a source tells us, do they have any great interest in Kareem Hunt, the former NFL rushing champ who is now a free agent after serving as a valued reserve with the Cleveland Browns.
Nevertheless, as Dallas’ plan is to allow the backs now on the roster (Malik Davis, Ronald Jones, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn) to compete for the reserve slots, national observers continue to link the Cowboys to the aforementioned names.
Writes former NFL GM Rick Spielman at The 33rd Team: “Hunt … is still a very powerful runner who has excellent vision to catch the ball out of the backfield. … There are a handful of teams that still need backup running backs. One is the Cowboys, although I anticipate Ezekiel Elliott will re-sign there. …Hunt is an excellent No. 2 back if he can stay healthy.”
We're hesitant to argue scouting with an actual NFL GM. But ... We can share what we know. Numerous team officials have told us they believe Hunt is close to out of gas. And Zeke - the two-time NFL rushing champion who like Hunt turns 28 this summer - is obviously, given the league's lack of pursuit of him, thought of similarly.
NFL observers (even ones who've been GMs) can certainly have their opinions on what the Cowboys are doing at running back. But once again, when it comes to most of their thoughts on Dallas signing a running back, their thoughts are not based on information coming out of The Star.
