FRISCO - "Sacrilegious'' is not a word we use too often in the sports media business. After all, as has long been said in newsrooms across the country, this is just the "toy department,'' right?

But Micah Parsons is off to such a seriously great start for the Dallas Cowboys this season that "sacrilegious'' suddenly applies when attempting to make comparisons. And in the NFL world? Putting anybody in the same sentence with Lawrence Taylor is ...

"It sounds sacrilegious to say it, but he's a Lawrence Taylor type of player. He's not there yet, but he has the potential to be that,'' said CBS lead voice Jim Nantz said. "Micah Parsons ... could make a play this year not only as the Defensive Player of the Year, but maybe the Most Valuable Player. ... That's what he wants.''

Nantz is absolutely right about that last statement. Parsons has in a sense campaigned for the last two years on the idea of a defensive player (you know, like him) being just as valuable as a quarterback.

And so far this year? It can be argued that the "Lion-backer'' has truly been that impactful. In just two games, he has seven total tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. And even when he doesn't put up a stat, he is creating opportunities for others while creating headlines for opposing coaches and QBs.

And at this moment? He's surely the top favorite for the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year award.

Nantz just saw him play (in Dallas' 30-10 win over the New York Jets last Sunday) and we bet in addition to his personal "eye test,'' he collected the thoughts of those inside The Star who see Parsons in this light.

Dallas is 3-0 and plays at Arizona on Sunday. This is a "smash'' opportunity for him to do is all again ... with more NFL MVP talk coming as a result.
