Micah Parsons Leaving Dallas With Coach Dan Quinn? Cowboys Joke Goes Viral
FRISCO - Yes, as we have reported, the Dallas Cowboys are preparing to lose defensive coordinator Dan Quinn in this NFL head coaching cycle.
But no, as we are happy to report to panicky Cowboys Nation, Dallas need not prepare to bid farewell to Micah Parsons.
Quinn, the highly-regarded top Dallas aide, is going to get interviews, and probably opportunities of the sort he has declined in the previous two years. Parsons is prepared for that, just as the organization is, and in fact wants to use it as postseason inspiration.
"It's the nature of the business," Parsons said. "It could possibly be my last ride with Q, and if it is, we're going to make sure it's a damn good one."
But then Micah talked some more - doesn't he always? - and set off ALERTS! in the minds of some ... with a joke.
"Dan's my guy," Parsons said with a grin. "And if he (does) leave me, it's always love. He might take me with him, you never know!''
Actually, we do know. The 2021 first-rounder is signed through 2024 on his rookie deal and then there is a fifth-year option for 2025. Intercepting that timeline is owner Jerry Jones' plan to sign Parsons to an extension this summer ... all of which means Micah is likely a "Cowboy for Life.''
But the Quinn/Micah combo? That one will not last forever. And Micah knows it.
"That's like my OG, for real," Parsons said. "He means a lot to me, not only because it's just about football. We were talking today … and I said, 'You're just such a great mentor.' I think he does a great job of finding ways for you to love the game and finding ways to go around the game."
Source: Cowboys' Dan Quinn On Seahawks 'Wish List' to Replace Carroll
A source told CowboysSI.com immediately following the Seattle Seahawks parting of ways with coach Pete Carroll that Seattle's "wish list'' would vault Quinn (a former Seattle assistant) to the top. He'll have other chances as well.
'That's Cute!' Cowboys' Micah Playoff Mindset: 'Legacy - Be Phenomenal or Be Forgotten!'
But before pursuing a new job, Quinn will try to improve his lot by helping Dallas to a Super Bowl. The Cowboys begin their postseason today vs. Green Bay at AT&T Stadium at 3:30 p.m. Micah seems to be planning a DQ tribute for that day and beyond.
"I'm gonna be phenomenal,'' Micah said. "I'm gonna be phenomenal, f****** phenomenal."
