Micah Parsons Names Commanders DT Daron Payne Top Cowboys Free Agent Target

Micah Parsons says he would like his Dallas Cowboys to add Commanders free agent DT Daron Payne.

FRISCO - Look up the name "Daron Payne'' and you'll see an almost synchronized movement: The Washington Commanders standout defensive tackle is set to be a free agent, and ...

In every single NFL city, there is the idea that the local team should be the one to sign him.

So, why should the Dallas Cowboys be any different?

Micah Parsons, an interview with Pro Football Talk, answered a question on this topic and the "Lion-backer'' said he would like "America's Team'' to add Payne.

Again, no shocker here. Payne is a first-round talent who led the Commanders with 11.5 sacks this season, qualifying for the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. The former Alabama star, the 13th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, is now due to go free ...

And the Commanders are seeing a tight fit, even as they consider using the franchise tag on him - at a cost of $19 million for one guaranteed year.

"We're working through that process now, obviously Daron is an important part of what we're doing," Washington GM Martin Mayhew said recently. "It'd be difficult to move forward without him, obviously. We have a plan and we definitely wanna get him back.”

The Cowboys surely have plans, too, though they traditionally focus on "signing our own.'' At the same time, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is acknowledging the benefits of the recent "go-for-it'' teams - including the Philadelphia Eagles, who are in the Super Bowl using an aggressive approach to outside adds in roster-building. ... and Micah Parsons is part of a growing group of Cowboys who wish Jones would lean the Eagles way.
