MVP Leader Dak Prescott 'Deserves' Super Bowl Like Tony Romo Did - Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones

FRISCO - Jerry Jones has never hidden his affection for former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, offering him the highest of praise in every possible way.

And now he's elevated present Dallas QB Dak Prescott to the same plane.

“Dak is a player who is qualified in every way to have a Super Bowl in his career,” Cowboys owner Jones said after Dallas pounded the Philadelphia Eagles, 33-13, on "Sunday Night Football,'' going on to repeat a common mantra of his ...

That Romo - Jerry's favorite all-time player - never winning a Super Bowl is Jones' deepest regret.

And now? Jerry is essentially saying the same thing about what he wants for Prescott, the eighth-year QB who has endured a ridiculous level of scrutiny - and even "hate'' - on the way to a 2023 season that now has him poised to win NFL MVP.

Dak will tell you that individual awards are not his priority. But they will come with the territory if 10-3 Dallas continues to put up points in a way reminiscent of the old St. Louis Rams' "Greatest Show on Turf.''

Think we're exaggerating? The Cowboys' point differential at home through seven games (+171) is the biggest in the league since Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk and the 1999 Rams were sprinting to the Super Bowl title.

The Cowboys have won 15 straight at home after the demolition of the Eagles, of which Dak said,

Said Dak of his work vs. the Eagles: “If I play my best game, we were putting a 50 up there.”

Prescott certainly just jumped Eagles QB Jalen Hurts in the MVP race, where he's likely joined by the likes of Brock Purdy, Lamar Jackson and Tyreek Hill.

Romo never won an MVP. And he - and the Cowboys of his era - never won enough playoff games to qualify for Super Bowls, as did his Dallas QB predecessors Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. Because of those two Hall of Famers, there is a standard that must be reached in Dallas before a quarterback is truly anointed.

How deep is the Jones/Romo kinship? In addition to the "favorite all-time player'' factoid, Romo literally used to vacation with the Jones family. Romo's third son's first name is "Jones.'' And have you ever noticed the actual address of Ford Center at The Star?

It's "9 Cowboys Way.''

Maybe someday, Dak Prescott will get a Frisco street named after him; being a Jerry favorite can make that happen. But it'll be all the more "deserved'' if it's a street that is part of the path of a Super Bowl parade.
