'No Ego!' What Brandin Cooks Move Means to Cowboys Chemistry
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys, led by emotional centerpiece, have for more than a half-decade now, preached about the power of their “brotherhood.”
And now comes a chance to lift that level of locker-room chemistry.
Brandin Cooks, after recently being traded to the contending Cowboys, immediately began his reaching out.
He went house-hunting with fellow trade newcomer and best pal Stephon Gilmore.
He contacted Prescott with plans to get involved in the informal workouts in the QB’s “Dak-Yard.”
And as important as any effort, he sought out young pass-catcher CeeDee Lamb with a powerful message.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for (Lamb’s) game from afar and I hit him up and was like, ‘Look, I’m coming to just help.’ Like, there’s no ego.”
Cooks - freed in trade by the Houston Texans in large part because he’d been a good soldier and glue guy during that franchise’s recent years of struggles - told the Adam Schefter podcast he isn’t looking to take over as the team’s No. 1 target.
“CeeDee, you’re talking about a guy that’s been electric since the moment he stepped into this league,” Cooks said of the Pro Bowler, citing “last year what he did to really just go into that mode of a true No. 1 receiver.”
Cooks said similarly flattering things about Michael Gallup. And then he moved on to Prescott.
“You talk about Dak, his competitive nature, the way that he goes about his work, you hear about it from teammates or ex-teammates, the way that he carries himself,” Cooks said. “I’m truly excited to be able to play with a guy that who is hungry to get better.”
As Cooks may or may not know, Lamb was the most vocal Cowboy this off-season in going public with his hope that Dallas management would add offensive weaponry.
That was a good call by Lamb. Then came a good call by the Cowboys front office. And Brandin Cooks’ reach-out to CeeDee Lamb?
Yup. That was a good call as well.
