Odell Beckham Jr. Workout VIDEO - But Mom Aside, Why Aren't Cowboys There?
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have long been on the short list of NFL teams chasing free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
But OBJ put on display on Friday his supposedly "100-percent healthy'' knee in a private workout in Arizona ... and Dallas oddly was not on the short list of teams that attended the session.
Why the heck not? Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offered a not-shockingly twisted answer.
“I did have a very impressive conversation with the most important one in this whole proposition, that’s his mother,” Jones told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “It was really easy for me to see where Odell [Beckham] got a lot of his pluses. She was very impressive. You can see where he gets a lot of the things he has.”
That's grand. We're sure Heather Van Norman has a lot of "pluses.''
But what does that have to do with the scouting and recruiting of OBJ, who has not played since tearing his ACL with the Rams early in their Super Bowl victory last year?
Anyway, what did Dallas - not among the 11 teams that did show up - miss? Here you go ...
It has been suggested that the Cowboys are already "comfortable'' with continuing their free agency pursuit of the 30-year-old receiver as is. It has also been suggested that the marketing-minded Jones might be more compelled to continue the connection than some of the football people inside The Star are.
Spotrac estimates that Beckham’s market value is around $13.1 million per season. Is Dallas "comfortable'' with that?
