Sean Lee Aims to Play in Cowboys' Preseason Matchup with Houston
FRISCO - Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee has an unfortunate and well-known history of injuries throughout his time in the NFL.
In eight seasons with the Cowboys, Lee has missed 35 games, playing in just 93 of a possible 128 opportunities, starting 77 of those games.
Most recently in 2018, Lee missed nine games due to a hamstring strain, that he was unable to shake throughout the entire season.
Heading into Saturday night's matchup with the Houston Texans in Arlington this Saturday, however, Lee feels as though he is ready to contribute to the defense.
“I feel great,” Lee said to the media after practice. “Being back with the guys is something I always enjoy, and the trainers did an unbelievable job. I’m ready to keep building and get ready for the season and continue to progress off this week.”
Due to last season's injury issues, the 33-year-old lost his starting position to emerging young star Leighton Vander Esch, who combined with Jaylon Smith, became one of best young linebacker duos in today's NFL.
While lee is on record that he does not want to disrupt the progress of Vander Esch and Smith's momentum and development, there is still room for him to contribute to the defense, and he is ready for that chance in whatever capacity that it arrives.
“I think it’s just good to get live reps, particularly as a linebacker, tackling live is something we don’t do,” said Lee. “Being able to get that under your belt, that live full rep at full speed always helps.”
