Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott 'Disqualified as MVP!' Troll Skip Bayless' Illogical Claim
Around here, we tend to hold our NFL media brothers and sisters to a standard of sorts. "Fact-based opinions,'' we've long called them. And using that standard as the foundation, we can have a thoughtful debate about the MVP worthiness of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Or ... we can scream and whine and squeal about the issue with enough volume to tell our audience we haven't done a moment's worth of research - of fact-finding - to justify our opinion.
Enter Skip Bayless, ever the contrarian, a fake "Cowboys fan'' who is suddenly screaming, whining and squealing about how Prescott does not merit MVP attention - and the FS1's reasoning, such as it is, truly revealing.
"As the ... bandwagon begins to roll for Dak being MVP, at least being in the conversation for, I say ‘Nope, nope, nope,'” Bayless stated in his usual theatrically overwrought manner. “Disqualified in my book because of what he did or didn't do at Arizona, at San Francisco, at Philadelphia in the fourth quarter ...''
Nope. Nope. Nope. The illogic in Bayless' position: If the MVP award (which is historically a QB's award) can only be given to what a QB "did or didn't do'' while underperforming in select games? The 2023 NFL MVP award will not be awarded to any quarterback.
Dak as MVP? 'The Best!' Says Cowboys' Jerry Jones
It's true. Prescott played poorly at Arizona and at San Francisco. (Only a moron counts Prescott's work against Philly in the same category). But ...
*Niners QB Brock Purdy, touted by none other than Michael Irvin as an MVP candidate, lost back-to-back-to-back games to Cincinnati, Minnesota and Cleveland, producing exactly 17, 17 and 17 points in each outing.
*Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, an obvious contender for MVP as the leader of the team with the NFL's best record, recently endured a streak during which he threw eight interceptions in six games.
*Bills QB Josh Allen, a perennial MVP candidate, has 19 TD passes - but a league-worst 11 interceptions.
*Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has played three winning teams all year. He's 0-3 in those games.
*Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, last year's MVP and the consensus pick as the game's best, was only able to get his team nine points in a shocking loss to the lowly Broncos.
*Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, a previous MVP winner, has seen his team get upset by a trio of inferior teams in the Browns, Colts and Steelers. In nine periods against the Colts and the Steelers, Jackson led his team to a total of 29 points.
Need we go on? A QB cannot be "disqualified'' for having bad games. And only a troll or a moron would "report'' otherwise.
Bayless is not a stupid man; "dumb like a fox,'' really, in how he's parlayed his act into a high-paying job. But he is nevertheless an ignoramus when it comes to being serious-minded about "his Cowboys'' and your NFL ... as he proves again with an "opinion'' that is not fact-based but rather is only designed to incite.
