Stephen A. Smith Loses Cowboys Bet, Pays Up to Dallas Fan Kelly Clarkson: WATCH

Stephen A. Smith loses a bet and has to profess his "love'' of the Cowboys to Kelly Clarkson following the Eagles' Super Bowl loss.

FRISCO - To be clear, when Kelly Clarkson and Stephen A. Smith appear on a stage together, there is more than one "performer'' up there.

ESPN's Smith has made a career out of pretending (yes, pretending) to be a "Dallas Cowboys hater'' and is milking that reputation for all its worth, most recently in the form of a "bet'' he made with singer Kelly Clarkson.

Smith bet Clarkson - who hails from DFW and is open about her Cowboys fandom (witness the dress she wore to host "NFL Honors'') - that the Philadelphia Eagles would beat the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.

His losing payoff? He had to appear on her daytime TV show to profess his love for "America's Team.''

"I love the Cowboys," Smith said on The Kelly Clarkson Show. "I said it, alright?"

This pronouncement of "love'' won't stop him from trolling the Cowboys and Cowboys Nation at every turn - indeed, ESPN personality Herm Edwards angrily let the cat out of the Bristol bag this week with his live on-air rant about the network's "obsessive'' over-coverage of Dallas - and if you as a Cowboys fan are in on the joke, it's actually quite entertaining.

But again, make no mistake: Clarkson's take on the Cowboys is a sincere one while Stephen A.'s take is by design a profitable one.
