Longhorns to Cowboys? Dallas Selects Top Texas RB in Latest Mock Draft

Texas running back Jonathon Brooks is one of the top players entering the NFL Draft. Could the Dallas Cowboys select him?

The Dallas Cowboys could be on the lookout for a new running back with Tony Pollard facing free agency.

While the Cowboys could look to sign a veteran on the open market, it's likelier for the team to find a long-term replacement through the draft.

In Sports Illustrated's latest mock draft, the Cowboys are slated to select Texas running back Jonathon Brooks in the second round with the 56th overall pick.

"Brooks is a fascinating piece of the 2024 running back puzzle, thanks to his late emergence as a viable three-down option at the position," Athlon Sports writes. "How will teams foil the lack of sample size against the lack of wear-and-tear on his resume? He’s got the foot speed and agility to run zone concepts, and he’s got the physicality to run downhill in a vertical scheme. Consider Brooks one of the more versatile options available in this class."

Brooks declared for the 2024 NFL Draft following his junior season, where he recorded 187 carries for 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns along with 25 catches for 286 yards and another score. Brooks was named to Second-Team All-Big 12 for his efforts.

In order for the Cowboys to maintain a high-octane offense for the upcoming season, they need a running back who can eat up yards and carries, and if things go right in the draft, Brooks could be that guy for Dallas.
