VIDEO: Dak Prescott Shows Off Healthy Ankle In Cowboys Workout

Prescott's private view is that he will be fully healthy this spring, with no aftereffects of the injury and surgery.

FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott met with the media on Wednesday here at The Star in Frisco to announce the official signing of his four-year, $160 million deal. He talked in a way that maybe calms the concerns about his rehab following his 2020 season-ending ankle injury.

And then on Thursday, the Cowboys released a video that is more than "talk.''

“I’m healthy,” said Dak, who walked to the podium with a smile but no limp,” joking that he considered jumping up onto the table to prove it. “I have followed the doctor’s orders the whole time. I’m getting close. I’ll be ready when it matters.”

This jibes with CowboysSI.com's exclusive Feb. 28 report that Prescott's rehabilitation following ankle surgery could allow him to be "100 percent by April,'' and, via a second source, that Dak "should be fully involved in all offseason work.''

Prescott, of course, sustained the serious ankle injury in Week 5 of the 2020 NFL year, ending his season and helping doom Dallas to a 6-10 record. There have been some issues raised about the success of the operation, especially when it was revealed that a second procedure was performed on the ankle, though sources have told CowboysSI.com that the second surgery was about "strengthening and clean-up.''

Prescott's private view is that he will be fully healthy this spring, with no aftereffects of the injury and surgery. The Cowboys feel the same way, with this contract essentially confirming those beliefs.

COO Stephen Jones said it was important, and maybe affirming, to have Dak rehabbing here in the building.

“He checks all the boxes ... and wants it (a championship) as much as anyone in this building probably along with the 78-year-old sitting to my left,” Stephen said with a nod to his father, Jerry.

COVID aside, while there could be workouts sooner than this, the team’s first OTA's figure to come in late May, with a mandatory minicamp in mid-June, and then a late-July start to training camp. (Which Jerry said is on for Oxnard.)

But via the video, we see that some of the workouts are already occurring, as part of the rehab.

"When I first got hurt, I said I wouldn’t put a timeline on it,” Dak said, “but I’m close. I’ll be ready when I need to be."
