Deion Sanders Rival Rips Cowboys Legend for 'Coach Prime' 'Swag' in Colorado

Cowboys icon Deion Sanders has receipts. He has ball caps. He has sunglasses. And now his Colorado program has "swag''-related motivation against an in-state Colorado rival.

FRISCO - Deion Sanders has been all about "swag'' pretty much since the slang term was invented. But suddenly, Saturday’s matchup between his No. 18 Colorado Buffaloes and in-state rival Colorado State is going to largely be about "Coach Prime'' and his style choices.

“I sat down with ESPN today,” CSU coach Jay Norvell said this week. “I don’t care if they hear it in Boulder. I told (the media), I took my hat off and I took my glasses off. I said when I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat off and my glasses off. That’s what my mother taught me.”

Oh-oh.

Sanders, the all-time Dallas Cowboys great and Hall of Famer, has established his desire to find "us against them'' wherever he can find it as the first-year Buffaloes coach leads a turnaround at CU, where the 2-0 record means they've already won twice as many games as they did in the entire 2022 season.

"Coach Prime’s'' presence in Boulder has been more than just a critical success, too, as Sanders is now saying that last weekend's win over visiting Nebraska generated "$18 million'' in profits for the city.

He made that announcement while not leaning on his preference for wearing sunglasses and a cap on the sidelines and during media interviews and press conferences. ... the exact sort of style that Norvell finds offensive.

Norvell said that he and Rams players have developed “a chip on their shoulder” after being asked so many questions about Colorado by ESPN, the network that is televising Saturday night’s game (9 p.m. CT) ... a game in which CU is favored by 23 points.

But if Norvell thinks he has a "chip on his shoulder''? Wait until the Buffaloes assemble to fuel themselves with "anti-swag'' motivation from what they view as insults. That was the case last week when star quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Deion's son, said 'Huskers coach Matt Rhule and his players were "disrespectful'' before kickoff. And the week before that, Deion led an upset at TCU while stressing to his team that nobody believes in them ... and that CU "keeps receipts.''

Deion's got receipts. He's got ballcaps. He's got sunglasses. And now his Colorado program has motivation.
