What’s Ex Dallas Cowboys Coach Kellen Moore Status Amid Los Angeles Chargers’ Firing of Brandon Staley?

FRISCO - Los Angeles Chargers ownership finally endured its last straw and firing head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco in the wake of the team's embarrassing nationally televised 63-21 Thursday night loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

From a Dallas Cowboys perspective this announcement of the news leads to a natural question: What does this mean to Kellen Moore, the celebrated young hot-shot offensive coordinator who was nudged out of The Star after last season and hired to help fix a mediocre program in LA?

Per the Chargers, "an interim Head Coach and General Manager will be announced within short order … so Moore, as the team’s coordinator … is waiting in limbo for now regarding whether he’s about to move up the ladder … or down it.

Worth noting: NFL Network cites Moore’s positive relationship with injured QB Justin Herbert and speculates that ownership might want the new coach to keep Kellen around.

Mostly, it’ll be a clean slate for the Spanos family to find new leadership … with likely New England Patriots lame-duck boss Bill Belichick sure to be atop the rumor mill.

So … would Belichick want to keep Kellen?

"I want to thank Tom and Brandon for their hard work, dedication and professionalism, and wish both them and their great families nothing but the best," said Chargers owner Dean Spanos. "These decisions are never easy, nor are they something I take lightly …

“Doing nothing in the name of continuity was not a risk I was willing to take.”

The Chargers are 5-9 this season, having lost five of their last six games. … including the debacle against the Raiders, a game that had many observers suggesting that the

Los Angeles players had “quit” on Staley, who leaves the Chargers with a perfectly mediocre 24-24 record … and one playoff appearance, his a historically infamous loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022.
