'Cowboys GM Troy Aikman'? Would Jerry Jones Ever Hire QB - And Bring Jimmy Johnson to Dallas? FISH PODCAST

FRISCO - Certainly in the minds of nostalgic fans, Troy Aikman and Jimmy Johnson represent the Dallas Cowboys at their very best.

What if team owner Jerry Jones bowed to nostalgia - or, some might even say, forceful logic - and allowed the Hall of Fame QB and the Hall of Fame coach to represent "America's Team'' once again?

The subject of "Aikman as GM'' comes up about once a year - that is, every time Troy - in his role as a national TV voice and in his role as a Dallas-loving elder statesman - is asked to review yet another Cowboys season that's come up short.

The subject of "Jimmy coming back'' is fresh again now that Jones has put Johnson into his Ring of Honor.

Is there anything realistic about any of this?

I've had this conversation about Troy with both Aikman and Jones. ... who by the way have a "love'' for one another that offsets whatever dismay the three-time Super Bowl-winning QB expresses over what he views as an inadequate Jones management style.

And now we can have this conversation with you, here, in the Fish Report and the Fish Podcast.

What would Troy really do if employed here? What would Jimmy really do?

I make the argument that placed in the exact right offices, and presented to Cowboys Nation in the exact right way, Aikman "growing into the job'' and Jimmy "as a consultant'' would be a bonanza for Jerry Jones in both areas he cares so deeply about.

It would help the Cowboys be a better football team. And it would be a PR smash. And to Jerry, what other two things even matter?
