Dak Prescott's Next Dallas Cowboys Contract; New Plan for MVP Candidate? FISH PODCAST

FRISCO - You don't hear much about Dak Prescott being overpaid anymore, do you?

We noticed on Sunday morning our pal Ian Rapoport bringing up Prescott's contractual future here. The QB is out of contract after the 2024 season, his $60 million cap hit in 2024 is untenable, and the plan all along has been to, by March 2024, forge a new deal.

A new deal. But not new information ... except for the fact that increasingly, Prescott looks worthy of becoming the NFL's newest highest-paid player ever.

“Dak’s playing great ball,'' said Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy after a seventh straight game in which his QB has built an MVP case. "It’s fun when you’re in this rhythm; he has such great command. And it’s just the connection with his teammates, you know, on the field, on the line of scrimmage. ...''

That last point is one that should not get lost among all of Prescott's shiny numbers: His leadership skills - which team owner Jerry Jones says makes him the franchise's all-time best "Pied Piper'' - are foundational. They have value.

Said Micah Parsons: "That's my quarterback right there. This is the type of quarterback that's going to win us the Super Bowl."

McCarthy emphasized that Dak's playing skills - and we would add, McCarthy's institution of the "Texas Coast Offense,'' which fits both of them - are central to what Dallas is doing ... and where Dallas wants go (all stuff we discuss in the Fish Podcast and the Fish Report) ...

“We want to attack and you can only do it with the with the championship-caliber quarterback,'' McCarthy said. "And Dak is that guy.”
