Dolphins Add Another First-Round Pick to Boost O-Line

The Miami Dolphins have used the second round of free agency to sign Cedric Ogbuehi and Isaiah Wynn, two players with the talent to compete for starting roles on the offensive line

The Miami Dolphins decision-makers preached patience when it came to addressing the voids that remained on the roster this offseason.

General Manager Chris Grier routinely stated the team would be active in the second round of free agency, the process that began after the NFL draft, and Monday proved he's a man of his word.

Last week Miami signed tight end Tyler Kroft, and on Monday the Dolphins officially added two veteran offensive linemen, signing Isaiah Wynn and Cedric Ogbuehi.

Wynn is a former first-round pick who has started 30 games for the New England Patriots since he was drafted in 2018. His signing was confirmed Sunday.

CEDRIC OGBUEGHI'S NFL CAREER

Ogbuehi, who was a 2015 first-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals, has played eight seasons for five different franchises, and was most recently with the New York Jets, for whom he started five of the seven games he played last season.

Ogbuehi re-signed with the Jets this offseason, but when New York added Carter Warren with a fourth-round pick and signed veteran Billy Turner he became expendable and was released Thursday.

Ogbuehi has played both right and left tackle, starting 35 of the 67 NFL games he’s played. Last season he started games at both left and right tackle for the Jets.

Wynn missed his entire rookie year with an Achilles injury that landed him on injured reserve.

The St. Petersburg, Florida, native started a career-high 15 games in 2021, which came after the Patriots exercised the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

In 2022, Wynn started seven of the nine games he played but finished the season on injured reserve because of a foot injury.

New England didn’t re-sign him, likely because the Patriots  signed Riley Reiff in free agency.

At this point, the terms of both deals these veteran offensive linemen signed is undisclosed, but considering Miami has minimal cap space until $13.6 million gets freed as a result of cornerback Byron Jones' June 1 release, those deals are more than likely for a salary close to the veteran minimum.

WHO'S GONE, WHO'S LEFT ON THE DOLPHINS OFFENSIVE LINE

The Dolphins had the roster space to add both offensive linemen because they released three of the undrafted rookie free agents - Jarrett Horst, Alex Jensen and D.J. Scaife - the team signed the day after the NFL draft.

Wynn and Ogbuehi likely are going to join the team immediately, participating in the offseason program, which ramps up to OTA practices next week.

That's when Miami's coaches will be able to assess whether they can push Austin Jackson for the starting right tackle spot, or if they have positive versatility that would allow them to move inside and play offensive guard, possible challenging Liam Eichenberg for the starting left guard spot.
