Dolphins Bringing Back Mostert
The Miami Dolphins have brought back another of their 2022 running backs.
The team agreed to terms Tuesday with Raheem Mostert on a two-year contract, his agent Brett Tessler tweeted.
Mostert led the Dolphins in rushing last season with 891 yards and an impressive 4.9 average when he played 16 games with 14 starts in his return to Miami.
Given Mostert's production and his long relationship with head coach Mike McDaniel, who spoke as glowingly about him as he did about any player last year, the re-signing almost seemed like a formality heading into the offseason.
The biggest concern with Mostert heading into last year was durability after he missed eight games in 2020 and all but one game in 2021, but he answered the call in that regard, though he did have to miss the playoff game after sustaining a broken thum in the playoff-clinching victory against the New York Jets in the regular season finale.
And Mostert was effective as both a runner and receiver, adding 31 catches for his rushing total.
Mostert had two 100-yard rushing performances during the regular season, including his brilliant 136-yard effort in the Saturday night game at Buffalo when he broke a 67-yard run in the first half.
DOLPHINS HALFWAY TO BRINGING BACK THEIR ENTIRE 2022 RB CORPS
After entering the offseason without a running back under contract for 2023, the Dolphins now are halfway through bringing back the same crew.
Before Mostert, pending RFA Salvon Ahmed was re-signed late last week, leaving Jeff Wilson Jr. and Myles Gaskin, who will become unrestricted free agents with the start of the new league year Wednesday.
But, as we predicted a while back, don't be shocked if the Dolphins end up running it back with the same group — even with the tantalizing spectre of starts like Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook lurking in the NFL stratosphere and rumor mill
