Not that it’s easy to do, but Tua Tagovailoa is looking to keep a low profile this offseason.

The Miami Dolphins quarterback is among the most scrutinized players in the NFL and there already have been and will continue to be a lot of conversations regarding his contract, his appearance, his workout regimen, you name it.

But when he spoke to reporters this weekend at his first football clinic in his native Hawaii, Tagovailoa made it clear he wasn’t revealing any secrets.

And that included talks toward a contract extension or his offseason workouts, even amid reports he has or will be spending time with renowned QB coach John Beck, the former Dolphins second-round pick.

“I’m not telling anyone what I’m doing this offseason,” Tagovailoa said Saturday, per khon2.com. “That’s what makes me special in my way. I’m a very private person, so I think that’s gonna be in-house.”

Whatever he’s been doing, Tagovailoa certainly does appear thinner than he did at the end of the 2023 season, which ended with him making his first Pro Bowl appearance after being voted the AFC starter.

TUA NOT WORRIED ABOUT CONTRACT

Tagovailoa is heading into his fifth NFL season in 2024 and currently is scheduled to play under the fifth-year option of the rookie contract he signed after being the fifth overall selection in the 2020 draft.

The expectation all along has been that Tagovailoa will be signing a long-term extension with the Dolphins at some point, though GM Chris Grier indicated at the combine in Indianapolis that it could take some time for a deal to be reached.

In the meantime, Tagovailoa isn’t interested in discussing that situation very much.

“They’ve been good. Right now, I’m letting my agent handle that,” Tagovailoa said of contract negotiations. “I’m focused on my family, I’m focused on continuing to better myself, better my craft and we’ll talk more about that when that time comes. For now, exciting times ahead, that’s for sure.”

The clinic in Hawaii this weekend, after which Tagovailoa took pictures and signed autographs, was one of those exciting times for him.

He was joined at the event, which included a golf fundraiser, by Dolphins teammates Terron Armstead and Jalen Ramsey.

“I didn’t really need to convince them,” Tagovailoa said. “I just asked them if they wanted to come understanding and knowing that that’s a (long) trip from Miami. I kind of had my expectations In the happy medium, not really thinking that they were gonna come, but that just shows you the kind of teammates that they are. Very, very grateful that they came in support of the foundation and more importantly, for these kids.”
