McDaniel January 11 Media Session Highlights
Head coach Mike McDaniel spoke to reporters before the team practiced at the Baptist Health Training Complex on Friday.
Here were the highlights of that media session:
-- Based on the lower scoring output against winning teams, the first question deals with whether McDaniel wants to stay the course or try new things, and the answer is about to best attack the defense based on the matchups and try to ensure ideal execution.
-- The status of Jaylen Waddle and Raheem Mostert follows, and McDaniel jokes that it's a good "question-able." McDaniel discusses the challenges of this being a short week. Adds there haven't been any setbacks and he's feeling optimistic about both being able to go.
-- DeShon Elliott and Jevon Holland also are nursing injuries, and they also fall into the questionable category. McDaniel indicates that Elliott won't be practicing Thursday. Both will be "game-day decisions for sure."
-- Asking about Bill Belichick amid the reports he's parting ways with the Patriots: "It's mixed emotions, I would say." McDaniel brings up Nick Saban and Pete Carroll and the respect for what all three have done for such a long period of time. Jokes that "it's a reminder that Father Time's a (d-word)." Another joke: He says he was on the job for 24 years and "it wasn't for his entertaining press conferences."
-- McDaniel says he's more comfortable going into Arrowhead Stadium this weekend than he was going to Germany to face the Chiefs, even despite the team's recent setbacks.
-- Regarding the running game building up for success in the postseason, McDaniel says this year's Dolphins team look like some previous teams that have been on that have had success in that area.
-- A playoff win at Kansas City would end the Dolphins' 23-year drought and McDaniel jokes that he's been saying "quarter-century" and he's been saying a lot, and then ending the drought would mean a lot. Calls it "rough" for fans to be loyal and not get to experience the joy of a playoff win for that long.
-- McDaniel calls it "cool" to be a part of a game where the weather will be so cold. Adds it's an additional motivating factor for his players.
