McDaniel September 8 Media Session Highlights

The highlights from Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel's media session before the team's practice at Baptist Health Training Complex

Head coach Mike McDaniel spoke to reporters at the Baptist Health Training Complex on Friday.

Here were the highlights of that media session:

-- First question deals with Terron Armstead and whether McDaniel is ready to rule him out for the Week 1 game against the Chargers. McDaniel says that Armstead would play if it were up to him, but it's also his job to protect Armstead from himself.

--McDaniel indicates that Armstead will be put "through some stuff." It's to be determined whether Armstead will take part in any portion of practice.

-- Derwin James is among the most versatile defensive backs in the NFL, and McDaniel says everybody on offense needs to know where he is and his playmaking ability.

-- Tackle Kion Smith is a player that McDaniel says he's highlighted to the team because of the way he's taken to the coaching.

-- Tackle Kendall Lamm is a great example of a guy who's found a place on a team. Says Lamm made an impact very early last season after joining the Dolphins with the way he prepares.

-- McDaniel says Lamm has come a long way in terms of technique since last year.

-- When it comes to the third and fourth wide receivers, McDaniel says those decisions usually get made earlier in the week.

-- With Brandon Jones, the focus all summer was to get him physically ready for the start of the season and he's getting better and better at getting the new defensive scheme down. Calls him a "pretty impactful player."
