OUTLOOK: It is easy to venture into hyperbole when describing Williams' staggering rise from a member of Alabama's rotation along its defensive line into the Outland Trophy winner as the top interior lineman in football, a unanimous All-American and, quite possibly, a top five selection in the 2019 NFL draft. He showed flashes of becoming a difference-maker as a redshirt freshman, stepping into a more prominent role when Da'Shawn Hand (a fourth round pick by Detroit last year) missed time due to an injury. Though he finished with "just" 20 tackles on the season, 6.5 of them came behind the line of scrimmage and he enjoyed his best game - five tackles, including two for loss - in the annual showdown with rival LSU. He finished the 2018 season with 71 tackles, including 19.5 for loss and eight sacks, earning the Outland Trophy, being named a finalist for both the Nagurski and Bednarik awards, and a unanimous All-American within days of turning 21-years old, suggesting that the best is yet to come. With all due respect to quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray (among others), Williams was the best player in college football in 2018. Teams will have to weigh the fact that he enjoyed just one dominant season before making the jump to the NFL but Williams' combination of size, quickness and power suggest he is on his way towards future Pro Bowls rather than proving a fluke.
