2023 Senior Bowl: Two More NFLPA Bowl Players Headed To Mobile
It was announced on Thursday that two more prospects from the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl have been identified to participate in the Reese’s Senior Bowl, bringing the grand total up to eight players who will be making the 2,000-mile cross-country trip from Pasadena to Mobile.
The SEC has always been well-represented in the Senior Bowl. Add South Carolina offensive lineman Jovaughn Gwyn [Height: 6017 | Weight: 301 | Hand: 0968 | Arm: 3178 | Wingspan: 7658] to the long distinguished list. A four-year starter and two-time team captain, Gwyn finished his Gamecocks career making 46 consecutive starts at right guard. The Charlotte native is an incredibly strong people pusher, very competitive at the point of attack, with the balance/control to finish. Some scouts would prefer him to kick into the center position at the next level due to his size dimensions. After a dominant week of practice at the historic Rose Bowl, he now looks to carry that momentum onto the big stage of the Senior Bowl.
Another player who stood out at the NFLPA Bowl due to his physical demeanor and aggressive style of play was Oklahoma State cornerback Jason Taylor II [Height: 5117 | Weight: 208 | Hand: 0958 | Arm: 3328 | Wingspan: 7728]. The Fort Worth native possesses ball-hawk skills, along with high football intelligence and a willingness to step up and get his nose dirty in the run game—he’s a solid open field wrap up tackler. Taylor II decided to attend Oklahoma State in honor of his father, who was tragically killed outside of an Oklahoma City convenience store when Jason was eight years old and was a Cowboys fan. After his latest promotion, his father would be proud of the name JT2 is creating for himself.
With the addition of Gwyn and Taylor II, they now join fellow NFLPA Collegiate Bowl participants at the Senior Bowl, including Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham, Texas Tech running back SaRodorick Thompson, Shepherd offensive lineman Joey Fisher, Sacramento State linebacker Marte Mapu, Kentucky cornerback Keidron Smith and Virginia Military Institute long snapper Robert Soderholm.
In addition, four NFLPA Collegiate Bowl participants have been called up to the East-West Shrine Bowl in Las Vegas, Nevada. They include: Penn State wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley, Clemson wide receiver Joseph Ngata, UCLA offensive lineman Jon Gaines II and Boise State defensive tackle Scott Matlock.
