Originally from Waterford, Michigan. He attended Notre Dame Prep High School and became a punter during his junior season. Began his college career at the University of Illinois. Decided to redshirt his first year. Transferred to Michigan State University prior to the 2018 season. As a redshirt freshman, he received playing time because two other starting punters got injured and were ruled out for the season. Did not play during his redshirt sophomore season. As a redshirt junior, he played in seven games and had twelve punts that went fifty or more yards, ranking first in the Big Ten. Had a fantastic redshirt senior season. He played in thirteen games and averaged 48.4 yards per punt, which was a school record, and ranks second in Big Ten history. He decided to use his extra year of eligibility. As a graduate senior, he had an outstanding season, averaging 49.0 yards per punt, which ranked first in the Big Ten and FBS. Named to the 2022 NCAA Consensus All-America team. He declared for the 2023 NFL Draft.
