Caleb Williams Shoots Down Patrick Mahomes Comparisons

The defending Heisman Trophy winner doesn't think he's earned such lofty praise just yet.

If Caleb Williams had been eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft, he likely would have been the No. 1 overall pick instead of Bryce Young.

As it stands, Williams is preparing for his second season at USC after transferring from Oklahoma, and despite his sky-high potential as a pro prospect, it's clear he still has unfinished business at the college level.

So much so that Williams, last year's Heisman Trophy winner, doesn't think much of the frequent comparisons between himself and Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

While they do have similar playing styles and a knack for making highlight-reel plays happen when things break down in the pocket, Williams says he's his own man, and he's still got a long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath as the two-time Super Bowl MVP:

Williams and his Trojans barely missed out on the College Football Playoff last year after an upset loss to Utah in the Pac-12 championship game. He was still able to take home college football's most prestigious individual award, but it's clear he's going after the bigger prize this year: A national title.

Even being a national champion, and even a No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, would still leave plenty for Williams to accomplish before he can live up to the hype of being the "next" Mahomes.
