Cedric Tillman
Tennessee Volunteers
One-Liner:
A high-potential player who has put up big-time stats and could end up being one of the better receivers in the class.
Evaluation:
Big-time players, make big-time plays, in big-time situations. It’s a catchphrase that’s been around football forever but it defines Tillman, who had 16 catches of 25-plus yards last season. His best performances from a year ago came against Georgia (10-200-1) and Alabama (7-152-1), which certainly grabbed the attention of NFL decision-makers. The Las Vegas native was essentially an afterthought until head coach Josh Heupel showed up. The staff identified his talent and Tillman has bought in, becoming one of his biggest advocates A consummate team leader, in addition to being named a three-time All-SEC academic selection, Tillman became the first Volunteers 1,000-yard receiver in a decade (Justin Hunter). He is ascending towards becoming an even better player than his father, who was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 1992 NFL Draft. While his dad was chosen in the 11th round, Cedric has a shot to be selected 10 rounds earlier!
Grade:
1st Round
Background:
Cedric Tillman is built like your perfect wide receiver. At 6’3, 215, Tillman has the ability to go up and get the ball and make an impact on the field. With that statement, Tillman has twenty eight catches of fifteen plus yards and sixteen of twenty five yards. During his Redshirt Junior season, he led the team with 1,081 receiving yards. Against the best team in the country, Georgia, Tillman put up ten catches for two hundred yard. With all of these stats, Tillman has the ability to be a tremendous receiver for any team.
Quotes:
"A year ago who thought Ced was going to have the year he had or Velus was going to become a high draft pick like he became, or JaVonta was going to have the impact he had inside of our offense. That's the great thing about college football, a quarter of your roster is turning over every year. A lot of great players leave. But with that there is great opportunity. Certainly Ced is going to get a ton of attention. It's our role as offensive staff to put him in a position to create isolations, one on one, find a way to get him the football." -- Tennessee HC Josh Heupel on WR Cedric Tillman
