Jamaree Salyer
Georgia Bulldogs
One-Liners
Versatile offensive lineman who is a poised pass protector with below-average athleticism.
Pros:
An offensive lineman with good weight and length. A guard recruit, Salyer has started at both tackle spots including two full seasons at left tackle, displaying his versatility. He is a technically sound and poised pass protector who maintains good balance and composure. Salyer keeps his feet moving and replaces his hands urgently, showing a good reactive punch as defenders rarely beat his hands. He is not set up by jabs and mirrors at an above-average level. Consistent bend keeps his pads down and means he does not waist bend. Possessing good core strength, he can recover against power rushers. His grip strength is good when he can attack the frame of defenders and makes him difficult to deconstruct. Salyer creates a push with above-average leg drive in the run game.
Cons:
A limited athlete, Salyer shows a lack of agility and quickness which prevents him from climbing to the second level, pulling and reach blocking successfully. His below-average explosiveness limits his ability to gain depth against speed and forces him to narrow his base. Quick defensive linemen give him trouble at the line of scrimmage as he is unable to get angles on them and they are able to shed him laterally. Salyer possesses a poor strike, failing to deal out body blows and knock defenders off balance. He is unable to latch when opponents extend. On cut blocks, his timing and aim is frequently off. Salyer is inconsistent at recognizing and passing off stunts.
Summary:
A versatile offensive lineman with good weight and length. Salyer is a poised, well-coached pass protector who displays active hands and feet as well as good punch timing and location. He is a limited athlete which gives him issues in pass protection and when asked to move in the run game. Salyer projects as a depth offensive lineman with his ideal position at guard. His lack of mobility limits him to a scheme that does not ask him to move much.
Background:
Jamaree Salyer attended Pace Academy high school in Georgia where he was named USA Today 2017 All-USA First-Team offense, as well as the Georgia All-USA First Team. He was one of three finalists for the 2017 MaxPreps Jonah Williams Award, given to the best OL nationally and a finalist for the U.S Army All-America Bowl’s 2018 Anthony Muñoz Lineman of the Year Award. After high school, 247Sports ranked him as a 5-Star recruit, the 10th-best recruit nationally, the 1st-ranked guard recruit in the country and the 3rd recruit in the state of Georgia.
Salyer committed to Georgia and in his true freshman season in 2018 he appeared in 13 games in a reserve role. In 2019, he appeared in 13 games and had two starts at right tackle, also playing backup center. In 2020, he started at left tackle for nine games and played the Peach Bowl at left guard. In 2021, Salyer started 10 of 14 games at left tackle and saw time at right guard. For his efforts, Salyer was named to the Walter Camp All-America 2nd Team and the AP & Coaches’ All-SEC 2nd Team.
Salyer’s work ethic is evident through his body transformation. As a senior in high school, he played at 360 pounds, but going into 2021, Salyer had dropped to around 309 pounds. Salyer dealt with a foot injury in 2021 which caused him to miss four games. He’s now healthy but head coach Kirby Smart praised him and teammate Chris Smith - who also fought back from injury - for their competitive spirit, “There’s really no way in the middle of a season, even with this break, to get 100 percent, but at the end of the day these guys are fighters. They’re two of our leaders on our team, and they fought back. We’ve had to be smart with the number of reps we give them.”
