Jaquan Brisker
Penn State Nittany Lions

Pros:

Brisker has the versatility in his game to play all over the defense. Most of his snaps come in the box, as well as playing over-the-top and in the slot. He is a smooth athlete in coverage with good fluidity to flip his hips and change direction. The Penn State safety offers good size and frame at 6’1, 204 lbs. He displays good functional strength a the point of contact and the frame seems to be very well-balanced to provide long-term durability. He has a quick trigger downhill to attack the box or line of scrimmage. NFL squads are always on the look for “tight end erasers” and Brisker has the physicality to play that role. He contributes on special teams, playing on the field goal unit. He’s a good processor of seeing and understanding what is going on in front of him. Seems to be a good leader and communicator at the back end of the defense. Possesses strong hands to shed blocks in the box. Brisker maintains good balance and leverage when moving on the lateral plane. Shows a lot of effort to chase plays down from behind.

Cons:

He often takes bad tackling angles, both in space and near the line of scrimmage. He has some lapses in coverage when playing as the deep safety by letting receivers behind him and allowing the chance for a big play to happen. Brisker is not much of a burner, he possesses fairly average speed compared to his peers. Initial foot speed is lacking in coverage to close the space in short areas in order to make a play on the ball. Needs to fix his tackling technique to become a more consistent finisher. Often times will get sucked too far into the box when coming up from a single-high position in run defense. Overall range is sub-par because of the lack of pure speed and foot quickness.

Summary:

Jaquan Brisker is a versatile safety out of Penn State who offers good size and flexibility at the position. He has played in the box at strong safety, free safety and as a slot defender in his career. Overalls he is a solid athlete with a good platform to develop, but there are a lot of kinks left to iron out in his game. He is fairly smooth in coverage with good mobility, has solid functional strength and good eyes. Seems to have a very good understanding and the ability to communicate pre-snap. He needs to fix his technique, both in coverage and in run defense to make him a better finisher on reps. He has the profile to be a top 100 pick for someone who can develop his tools.

Background:

Hometown is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Attended Gateway HS. He was an unranked player out of high school and his only offer was from Toledo. 5A All-WesternPAFootball.net All-State team. Played in the PSFCA East/West All-Star Game. First-Team All-Big East 5A All-Section honors. Two-time team MVP and team captain. He also lettered two years in basketball and was selected as a First-Team All-Section player in the sport. He went on to attend Lackawanna Community College for two years before transferring to Penn State. He was the top-rated JUCO safety and 12th ranked overall JUCO prospect in 2019 according to the 247Sports Composite. Parents are Mijohni Brisker and Jawann Davis. He has seven siblings, four brothers and three sisters. His grandfather, John Brisker, played basketball at Toledo. He is majoring in communication arts and sciences.

One-Liners

Pulido: Jaquan Brisker is a developmental starting safety that can win in the run game with excellent key and diagnose and play effort. He is a tackler you can rely on in the back end. He does not possess NFL abilities as a pass defender yet and will have to develop those.

Latest News:

No stranger to adversity on or off the field, Penn State safety Jaquan Brisker turned in a valiant effort in week one, producing a game-sealing interception on a clutch fourth and goal play to help guide the Nittany Lions over Wisconsin. Known to be a brilliant football mind who spends countless hours in the film room, Brisker was not surprised by the end result stating, “I knew that they loved No. 84, so I figured I’d favor his side. Once he threw it, I made the play.” He would finish with four tackles, including one tackle for loss and also had a fumble recovery early in the game that was eventually reversed. The gutsy performance was commendable, as Brisker was subbed in and out throughout the game, while he battled various ailments. “It’s a testament to who he is as a football player,” teammate PJ Mustipher said. “He battled through injuries and got a pick. That’s just the type of player Brizzy is.” He made a handful of short-yardage stops on the day and was constantly around the football when he was in the game. Brisker carries on the memory of his late brother Tale’ who was murdered at the age of 19 in Prairie View, Texas with a tattoo on his bicep. His brother would have been proud of this gutsy performance, no doubt. Be on the lookout for this defensive star whose draft stock is ascending.
