Instead of releasing him, the Bengals are sending their longtime starter to Houston.

The Cincinnati Bengals are trading running back Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

We're still waiting for the compensation involved in the deal, but the Bengals were originally set to release Mixon after agreeing to terms with free agent Zack Moss. Instead, the Texans are swinging a trade for Mixon after losing Devin Singletary in free agency to the New York Giants.

Mixon joins one of the most impressive young offenses in the NFL with quarterback C.J. Stroud, and will team up with Dameon Pierce to bolster Houston's ground attack after being a reliable back for years in Cincinnati.

These corresponding moves could keep both of these teams from targeting a running back in the early rounds of the 2024 NFL draft, which makes sense considering the lackluster strength of this year's class at the position.
