Background:

Along with playing baseball, Linebacker, and sprinting, Joe Shimko was a highly recruited Long Snapper out of Wall Township High School located in New Jersey. After falling out of love with baseball and growing tired of injuries in other sports, Shimko’s father convinced him to try playing Long Snapper prior to his sophomore year. According to Shimko, he would practice 200 punts and 200 field goals in his backyard every day with his father in order to master his craft and support his family financially in the future. Shimko was cemented as a top 10 Long Snapper in the country while also being a top 75 recruit in his home state before attending North Carolina State. In 2019, he snapped for 24 field goal attempts, 28 PATs, and 56 punts. In 2020, he snapped 114 times, including 52 long snaps and 62 short snaps. In 2021, Shimko accumulated 65 long snaps and 66 short snaps. Throughout his collegiate career, Shimko is celebrated for 174 long snaps and 180 short snaps without a single bad snap since joining the Wolfpack in 2019. Along with totaling 10 tackles, Shimko is credited with helping Kicker Christopher Dunn, and Punter Trenton Gill have successful collegiate careers. He also earned fourth-team All-American, Academic All-ACC honors, All-North State Team, and was a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award for the nation’s top Long Snapper.
