Martin, who also is the Aggies’ offensive coordinator, has a 17-44 record in six seasons at New Mexico State, but the Aggies finished 7-6 last year and beat Utah State, 27-20, in the Arizona Bowl, their first bowl appearance in 57 years.

The 55-year-old Martin, who played quarterback at Kentucky, started his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Wildcats in 1986-87. His first head coaching job was at Kent State, where he had a 29-53 record from 2004-2010.

Martin joined New Mexico State as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2011, and after serving in the same positions at Boston College in 2012, he became the Aggies’ head coach in 2013.
