NFL analyst roasts Falcons over Michael Penix Jr. selection in viral Tweet

Some moments are just too funny to hide your laughter. While it might not be fair to Penix -- by all accounts, a fine prospect -- the opportunity to poke fun at the Falcons is too much to avoid.

In this story:

The second it happened, it was clear the Atlanta Falcons' selection of Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. was going to create social media fodder likely for the entirety of the 2024 NFL season. Maybe longer. This, of course, isn't fair, because Penix has to be at least strongly associated with the savagery, but he really has nothing to do with it.

Still, when a team (the Falcons) guarantee $100 million on a four-year contract ($160 million in total value) for a quarterback, that team isn't expected to draft a quarterback with the eighth overall pick. Yet, here we are.

Andy Behrens, a Fantasy sports analyst at Yahoo!, had the perfect joke as the Penix situation in Atlanta continues to be widely discussed.

Rattler is expected to come off the board at some point on day 2, which would make him the seventh quarterback taken, should no others go before him. It wasn't a widely-held opinion that Rattler was on Penix's level, but certainly, if Atlanta wishes to back up its starter who is recovering from a torn Achilles with a quarterback with two ACL tears on his resume, Rattler's clean injury history -- as well as his powerful arm and quick release -- follows in line with that logic.

With six quarterbacks already having been taken, and at least one of them pretty much certainly destined to be a back-up for a bit, it wouldn't seem like Rattler has much opportunity to compete for a starting job anywhere else.

But hey, maybe Chicago wants a back-up in day 2.
