QB Jeff George Jr. transfers to Pittsburgh
Jeff George Jr. has transferred to the University of Pittsburgh, which is the third college he has attended.
Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi confirmed George has enrolled in school and is on the team. Narduzzi also said the university is still trying to determine whether George, who is a graduate transfer, is eligible to play this season.
Kenny Pickett is listed as Pitt’s starting quarterback after playing in four games last season as a freshman.
George is the son of former Illinois and NFL quarterback Jeff George.
The younger George began his college career at Illinois, but announced two months ago that he would transfer to Michigan.
He began fall camp with the Wolverines, but last week, after Shea Patterson was named Michigan’s starting quarterback, he announced he would transfer again for his final college season.
George started five games for Illinois last year as a junior and wound up as the Illini’s leading passer with 1,273 passing yards. He accounted for seven of the Illini’s eight touchdown passes on the season, but he also threw 10 interceptions while completing 51.9 percent of his passes.
In his three seasons at Illinois, George started nine games, completing 48 percent of his passes with 11 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions.
