Rutgers coach acknowledges investigation of some players
Several weeks after it was first reported that several Rutgers players were under investigation for possible credit card fraud, Rutgers coach Chris Ash acknowledged on Monday an investigation took place and discipline has already been meted out, ESPN.com reported.
Ash did not comment on the specifics of the investigation or the discipline, telling ESPN.com, “Once the investigation and charges are brought to light and everything moves forward, then what we’ve already done will also be brought to light.”
Earlier this month, NJ.com reported that up to eight Rutgers players were under investigation. The newspaper did not reveal the identities of any of the players because there had been no charges brought forward in the investigation.
Two players, defensive back K.J. Gray and linebacker Brendan DeVera, were dismissed from the team for an unspecified violation of team rules. Both used social media to say they expected to be able to transfer to other colleges, but they did not comment on the reason they were dismissed.
It is unclear whether Rutgers will be without some suspended players in its regular-season opener.
“That’s to be determined,” Ash told ESPN.com.
